Third Coast Soccer Game of the Week:
Central Texas Lobos (1-0-0, +1 GD) vs CD Motagua of New Orleans (1-0-0, +3 GD)
Last Week:
Central Texas Lobos had the weekend off after heading over to Alexandria, LA the week prior where they upset Alexandria Pool Boys FC 2-1. The Blue Eagles made their 2018 GCPL debut with an impressive 3-0 win over the Mississippi Blues in Clinton.
Past Matchups:
This will not only be the first matchup between these two sides, but it will also be the first ever Gulf Coast Premier League game to take place in Texas. A reenergized Motagua is considered one of the early favorites to win the GCPL Cup and one of our “experts” has tapped the Lobos as a darkhorse to win it all this season.
Key Players:
If you know GCPL, you know Reece Wilson. Over 3 seasons, Wilson has 22 goals for Motagua making him GCPL’s all-time leading scorer. Additionally, he has 13 assists, for second place in the league’s all-time list. The New Orleans side has several other talents to pick and choose from for players to watch, but right now all eyes are on goalkeeper Donaldo Morales. In his GCPL debut, Morales earned his first clean sheet, but eyes are mostly on him due to his illustrious career in Honduras for Motagua’s Honduran namesake.
Over in Texas, Jordan “Wichi” Guardado is found in the center of midfield. A local product of the Lobos Academy he will look to control the middle of the pitch. Oscar Ramirez, a right back and former standout in the Salvadoran second division will add not only to the Lobo’s attack, but thus far has proven a stalwart on defense.
Coaches:
Felipe Arcos, Central Texas Lobos
Steven Morris, CD Motagua of New Orleans
